The complete guide

How to use
the chamber diary.

Everything the app does, in the order you will actually meet it — from signing in on the first morning to running the whole chamber. Twenty-four short lessons. Four of them you can try right here on this page.

~25minutes, start to end

Part one

Getting in

The first five minutes. You only do most of this once.

Lesson 01

Sign in with Google

There is no chamber password to invent, share or forget. The app uses the Google account you already have.

  1. Open app.chamberos.in in your phone's browser.
  2. Tap Sign in with Google and pick your account.
  3. That is the whole of it — you are in.
Your Google email must be verified. Almost every account already is. If the app asks you to sign in again to confirm your address, do that once and it will not ask twice.

Lesson 02

Choose your chamber

One Google account can belong to more than one chamber. After signing in you pick which one you are working in. The badge on the right shows your role there.

  1. Tap the chamber you want to work in.
  2. You land on the Home screen for that chamber.

If you belong to only one chamber, you still tap it once — that is what tells the app which record you are opening.

Lesson 03

If you have no chamber yet

There are exactly two ways to get one, and which applies to you depends on whether the chamber already exists.

You are starting one

Tap Create a new chamber and fill in the chamber name, your Bar Council enrolment number and your district. A backup email and phone are optional but worth adding — they are how you would recover the chamber if you ever lost access to your Google account.

Tick the box to accept the terms, then Create chamber. You become both its owner and a head.

Someone is adding you

A head of that chamber creates an invitation for your email address and sends you the token. Tap Join with invitation, paste it in, and tap Join chamber.

The invitation only works for the email address it was made for, it works once, and it expires after seven days.

Your enrolment number is recorded, not checked. Formats differ between state Bar Councils, so the app stores what you type without verifying it. Type it carefully.

Lesson 04

Put it on your phone, and pick your language

There is no app store download. The app runs in the browser and can sit on your home screen like any other app.

  1. On Android: open the browser menu and tap Add to Home screen.
  2. On iPhone: tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open it from that icon from now on — it fills the screen, with no address bar.

For language, tap the chip in the top-right corner of any screen. It says हिंदी when you are in English and English when you are in Hindi. Every screen, label and message changes. Your choice is remembered on that phone.

Everyone stays up to date automatically. There is no version to install and no one left behind on an old one — the next time a screen loads, it is the current one.

Where you land, and what the numbers mean.

Lesson 05

Reading the four counters

Across the top of Home sit four tiles. Each one is also a button — tap it to go straight to what it counts.

Total Cases
Every case in the chamber's register.
Today
The day's progress as reported / listed — so "2/3" means three matters were listed today and two have been reported. It counts up as the day gets done, rather than down.
Pending
Matters that have gone quiet and need somebody's attention. This is the one to watch.
My Work
Tasks assigned to you that are not finished.

Below the tiles is the menu, and along the bottom of the screen are five tabs — Home, Today, Pending, My Work, Cases — which are always there, on every screen.

Part three

The day's work

This is the heart of it. If you learn only one part, learn this one.

Lesson 06

Open today's diary

Tap Today at the bottom, or Today's Diary on Home. You get every matter your chamber has listed for today.

Matters are grouped by court type — Session, then Family, then Lower, then anything Unmarked — in the order you would walk the building. Each group carries its own count, and the whole day carries one at the top:

15 matters · 14 reported · 1 outstanding

A finished day does not empty out. Reported matters stay on the list with a green Reported tag and what happened written underneath, so the day reads as a record of itself rather than a blank page.

Lesson 07

Record a hearing

This is the one action you will do most. Tap the matter on the diary, then Record Hearing.

  1. Who Brought the Date — who attended. Start typing and the app suggests names already used on this case, as well as chamber members.
  2. What Happened — one short line. This is required.
  3. And then? — choose one of three. The form changes to match your choice.
  4. Tap Save.
You never type the hearing's date. It comes from the listing you are answering. Report a matter from the 20th on the 31st and it is still recorded as the 20th — which is what actually happened.
A next date and a disposal can never both be true. They are contradictory claims about the same day in court, so the app offers them as three separate choices and will not accept two.

Try it below — it behaves exactly as the app does.

Practice Record a hearing
Lesson 08

The three choices, and when to use each

Next date fixed

The court gave the next date. Pick it, and optionally say what the next hearing is for. The matter leaves today's diary and appears on that date instead.

Awaiting order — no date given

Somebody attended, the matter was for orders, and no date was given. Choose this rather than inventing a date. The case moves to Pending until a date arrives.

Closed / no further diary

The matter is finished. Write the outcome. The case is marked disposed and stops appearing in the diary — but its whole history stays readable.

The middle one matters more than it looks. Most systems force a false next date when the court gives none. Recording "no date yet" honestly is what lets the Pending screen find these matters later.

Lesson 09

What happens when you tap Save

One tap, and five separate things happen together — which is why you never have to remember a second step.

  1. Today's listing is closed and marked completed.
  2. A permanent entry is written into the case history, under your name.
  3. If you gave a next date, that date is put into the diary.
  4. The case summary is brought up to date.
  5. The action is written to the chamber's activity log.
All five, or none at all. They are saved together, so there is no situation where the hearing was recorded but the next date never reached the diary. If anything fails, nothing is saved and you simply try again.

Part four

Fixing a mistake

Everybody mistypes. Here is what the app does about it.

Lesson 10

Correct an entry

Open the case, find the entry in Hearing History, and tap Correct this entry. The form opens with everything already filled in — change what is wrong and save.

  1. The original entry stays, marked corrected.
  2. Your corrected version appears beside it, under your name.
  3. If it was the case's latest entry, the diary follows the correction — the old next date is replaced by the new one.
The hearing's date cannot be changed by a correction. It is shown greyed out. The date came from the listing, so a correction fixes the words, never the day.

Try correcting an entry — including trying to delete one.

Practice Correct an entry
Lesson 11

The limits on corrections

Four per case per day
A single case can be corrected four times in one day. The day runs on Indian Standard Time. This stops one record being rewritten over and over; it is counted per case, so fixing typos across several different cases is never blocked.
Clerks: the last two hearing dates
If your role is staff, you may correct entries on the case's two most recent hearing dates. Anything older needs a chamber head.
Nothing can be deleted
Not by you, not by a head, not by anyone. A correction always adds; it never removes. This is enforced underneath the app, so it holds even if something goes wrong above.
A disposed case is closed to new entries
Once a case is closed you cannot record a further hearing on it. Its history stays fully readable.

Part five

Nothing gets forgotten

The two screens that chase the work for you.

Lesson 12

Pending — the matters that went quiet

Tap Pending at the bottom of the screen. A case lands here for one of exactly two reasons, and the tag tells you which.

Not reported
The date it was listed for has passed and nobody has said what happened. This is the urgent one — until somebody records it, the matter simply sits there.
No next date given
The hearing was recorded, but the court gave no date. It waits here until one arrives.

Clearing an item is the same as any other entry: open the case and record what happened. It leaves this list by itself.

Filter the two reasons below.

Practice The Pending screen
Lesson 13

My Work — who is doing what

Tap My Work. At the top is a small box for adding an assignment.

  1. Type what needs doing.
  2. Choose who it is for from the chamber's member list — or leave it unassigned.
  3. Give it a due date if it has one.
  4. Tap Add Assignment.

Tasks show a red Overdue tag once the due date has passed, and an Due today tag on the day. Tap Done to finish one.

Ten open assignments each. If you have ten of your own still open, the app asks you to finish some before adding more — which keeps the list something a person can actually read.

  3. Tap any card to open the case.

Above the list is a counter showing how much of your chamber's case allowance you have used. It turns amber as you approach it, so the limit is never a surprise.

Lesson 17

Edit details, and your private note

Edit Case Details changes the descriptive facts — a misspelt party name, the wrong court, a new phone number, the court type, or the lawyer connected to the matter.

This never touches what happened in court. Editing details and correcting a hearing are two different things. Court events are only ever changed through Correct this entry, which keeps the original.

My Note is a private scratchpad on the case, one per person. Nobody else in the chamber sees yours, and you do not see theirs. Useful for a reminder to carry a file or call the client — not for anything that belongs in the record.

Lesson 18

Look up any date

From Home, tap Search by Date, pick a date and tap Diary. You get that day exactly as today's diary looks — past or future.

Looking backwards shows what was listed and what was reported: the chamber's record of that day. Looking forwards shows what is coming, so you can prepare.

You can also change the date directly from the date box at the top of any diary screen, without going back to Home.

Part seven

For chamber heads

These screens only appear if your role is head.

Lesson 19

Invite someone

From Home, tap Admin, then scroll to Invite someone.

  1. Type their Gmail address.
  2. Choose the role: staff records hearings, head can do everything.
  3. Tap Create invitation.
  4. A token appears. Send it to them — by WhatsApp, message, however you like.
The token is shown once and never again. Copy it before you leave the screen. If you lose it, simply create another invitation.

The role is fixed when you create the invitation, not when they accept it. It works only for that email address, only once, and expires after seven days.

Roles, and removing people

The Admin screen lists everyone with access, their email and their role.

Removal is immediate. Access is checked on every single action, not just at sign-in — so somebody removed while holding their phone is stopped at their very next tap. Everything they recorded stays in the chamber's history under their name.

Three rules the app will enforce for you: the chamber's registered owner cannot be removed and always stays a head; a chamber must always keep at least one head; and there can be at most four heads.

Download everything

At the bottom of Admin is Download export. One tap gives you a ZIP file containing the whole chamber as spreadsheets:

  • every case
  • every listing, past and future
  • every hearing, including superseded ones
  • the complete activity log
  • a manifest saying what was exported, by whom, and when

The files open in Excel with Hindi text rendering correctly. Take a copy whenever you like — this is your chamber's data and it is never held hostage.

Exports are themselves recorded. Downloading the chamber is written into the activity log, so the chamber can always see when a copy was taken and by whom.

Lesson 22

Why one chamber never sees another

You may be a head in one chamber and staff in another. The app keeps them completely apart — not by remembering to filter, but by storing each chamber's records in its own separate compartment.

Two chambers can even use the same case id. They are unrelated matters, and no screen, search or export in one can reach the other.

Try to cross the wall.

Practice Search across chambers

Part eight

For the owner

The person who registered the chamber. Usually, but not always, also a head.

Lesson 23

Rename the chamber, keep your contacts current

From Home, tap Owner. You can change the chamber's name, and your backup email and phone number.

Keep the backup contacts right. They are the only route back into the chamber if you ever lose your Google account. Recovery sends a code to a registered contact, then waits two days before anything changes — and warns every contact on file, so an attempt nobody made can be stopped.

  1. Type the chamber's name exactly as it is written. Nothing else will do.
  2. Tap Delete this chamber.
  3. The chamber is held, untouched, for one month.
You have a month to change your mind. During the hold the chamber appears in your chamber picker with a Cancel deletion button. After the month, everything is destroyed permanently and cannot be recovered by anyone.

The words the app uses

Listing
A date this case is supposed to be in court. A case has at most one open listing at a time — which is what stops anyone going to court on the wrong day.
Hearing
A record of what actually happened. Permanent, attributed, and never deleted.
Reported / Outstanding
Whether today's listing has had its hearing recorded yet.
Corrected
An entry replaced by a later one. Both stay visible.
Disposed
A case that is finished. It leaves the diary; its history remains.
Head / Staff
Head administers the chamber. Staff records the day's work.
Owner
The person who registered the chamber and holds the delete key. Also operates as a head.
Court type
Session, Family, Lower or Unmarked — drives colour and grouping.

Things worth knowing

  • Dates run on Indian Standard Time. A hearing recorded at half past midnight belongs to the right day.
  • Nothing is ever deleted from the record. Not hearings, not the activity log, not by anyone.
  • Every action is logged with your name, and the log is built so that altering it after the fact would be detectable.
  • The app updates itself. Reload and you have the current version; nobody is left behind on an old one.
  • Signed out unexpectedly? Sign in with Google again. Nothing is lost — the record lives on the server, not on your phone.

That is the whole app
